Are timber pergolas weatherproof?
Timber pergolas are weather-resistant rather than truly weatherproof. Timber is a natural material that responds to sun and rain, so lasting performance comes from the design, finish and maintenance of the structure. We work with high-quality Australian finish manufacturers and favour penetrating oils that soak into the timber, help repel water and resist UV, while allowing the natural grain and colour to show through. Unlike varnishes and film stains, penetrating oils weather gradually and make maintenance a simpler clean and re-coat process.
